Who We Are

AlphaRoute is a startup that provides dynamic, end-to-end software, advanced analytics, and sophisticated consulting support to help school bus and transit agencies optimize their daily operations. Our work has been recognized by INFORMS, the largest professional association for operations research, management science, and analytics. Our team of PhD-level researchers and former public sector executives has garnered significant press coverage from The Wall Street Journal and several other publications. As we work to transform the world of mobility, we are saving millions of dollars for our clients, improving the lives of their constituents, and helping the environment.

AlphaRoute, based in Waltham, MA, is looking for energetic, solutions-oriented people to drive our next wave of innovation and to promote our relentless pursuit of customer satisfaction.

The Role in Brief

We are looking for an Account Executive (AE) to first and foremost support our ongoing and exciting work with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. CMS is one of the largest and most respected school districts in the U.S. We have had a successful software partnership with their transportation team for over a year. One of the cornerstones of this relationship has been our unparalleled approach to customer service. We are looking for an AE to heighten this approach by bringing on-the-ground support to CMS for our current and any future projects with the district.

Outside of this CMS-support dimension, we are looking for an AE to lead sales and customer support conversations in the Southeast U.S., with a particular focus on Florida, where AlphaRoute has already generated traction due to several successful engagements.

The position would report to the Head of Sales but would sit between our Sales, Customer Success, and Development teams – building relationships which result in new business, supporting several customers simultaneously, and bringing customer feedback to our R&D staff for future integration into our software and overall approach.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • 3+ years professional experience in either a public school transportation role or a customer service-related position or both.
  • First-rate people skills.
  • A passion for using technology to make work and life easier, with a proven track record for successfully using software and other technology on the job.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to discuss and explain difficult situations with clients and other key stakeholders.
  • Strength in problem solving, project management, and issue-resolution skills, without the need for close supervision.
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven work environment, tactfully balancing a range of sometimes competing priorities.
  • An energetic, team-oriented professional who is passionate about their work and about helping others.
  • Solid knowledge of CRM software and MS Office.
  • Magnetic personality, instilling confidence in others.
  • Loyalty, both to customers and to the organization and its mission.
  • Passion for work that benefits the public good.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Unquestionable ethics.
  • Competitive spirit.
  • Previous sales experience is desired but not required.
  • Familiarity with the Charlotte area and other areas in the Southeast is desired but not required.
  • Proof of successful project management support across a range of projects and/or a certificate in project management is desired but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the face of the organization to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and other school districts, and potentially transit agencies, in the Southeast U.S., serving as the project manager for any major contracts. (At times, this one responsibility may occupy more than 80% of the AE’s time while at others it could be as low as 20%, depending on CMS’s needs.)
  • Resolve client problems and handle complaints in a timely manner.
  • Support the Head of Sales in pursuing business and sales goals.
  • Promote AlphaRoute’s innovative products and services, and personally help close deals of all sizes within the Southeast.
  • Own the customer experience and bring feedback from clients to our development teams, fueling our constant cycle of improvement.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships and relationships with key customers and suppliers.
  • Take part in AlphaRoute’s sales event/conference activities and help plan the calendar for such activities throughout the year.
  • Work collaboratively across teams, including Data Science (R&D), Customer Success, and Marketing.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase revenue and meet sales goals.
  • Analyze market trends and customer behavior to identify new opportunities.
  • Know the competition and develop winning strategies to outsell them.
  • Most of all, know the customers and develop winning strategies to support them.

Compensation

The role will feature a mix between salary, commission, and bonuses, and an excellent benefits package. AlphaRoute expects to offer a high base salary and relatively low commission rate in year one of the role, acknowledging the newness of the position and the company’s emergence in the market. We expect to drop the base by year two while increasing the commission rate and     might continue to do so through the first three years of the role.

Location

This AE position will be based in the Charlotte area, with travel expected periodically throughout the Southeast and at least twice annually to AlphaRoute’s offices. The person filling the role might also be asked to represent the company at sales events across the U.S. and Canada.
